VM (Virtual Machine) compact
One of the clients of the IT company i work for was having backup issues. It was down to space, LTO2 drive which was trying to now backup 490ish GB of data. The last successful backup was 438GB.
Where had that extra data come from? Client doesnt know..?
Anyway, as they run MS Hyper-V i noticed the vhd was bigger than the space used inside. This meant i could compact the file and get that space back! So i deleted some old files from both the C and D vhds ready for compacting.
Thought i would do a defrag too while i was at it.
Windows showed c:\ as: 44GB
Windows showed d:\ as: 239GB
The VHD sizes before compact:
C: 72GB
D: 316GB
After:
C: 41GB
D: 223GB
Happy days :)
