BT Infinity

I just got my BT infinity installed. We were told 28mb i actually ended up getting 25mb, not bad, and all for £20 per month, which includes free calls too. BT told us they could move the home hub to another room, they also confirmed it was cat5 cable which seemed right due to even BT moaning about copper and signal loss and how "the modem must be connected to the master socket". However today the BT enginner just chanegd the faceplate and attached another telephone cable to the back of it, up to the other room. They then just attached a socket with a modem port. no data\cat5 cable!! hmm... who knows if i lose some signal in this extension.. Still im happy with 25mb.. Seems they do do traffic shaping, torrents are limited to <80kbps, at 5pm dead it shot up and bounced around.. very disappoint, i did know it was possible i would notice however people i had asked said they have had no issues. Gamble i took and lost. Another little moan is, two boxes, a modem and hu

Iphone IOS5 Jailbreak

I have an iPhone 4, with 4.3.3, its Jailbroken so i haven't upgrading since. Now IOS5 is out i want to upgrade the thing, the new features seem great even the simple feature of now being able to create photo albums!! That always annoyed me! I have held of so far upgrading as there is no untethered jailbreak out and i cant use the thing without certain apps. I hope the untethered version is out soon! I feel left behind!!

Google Maps fuel cost

We all wonder now and again how much it costs in petrol to get from A to B, be it for money saving or just curiosity. Today I used Google Maps to look at a route back from work because of those blasted roadworks! I use this service quite a lot, finding routes or using Street View to see where I'm going before I get there. Well today i noticed on the left, under the directions to take it states " Est. fuel cost : £xx.xx". Great little feature, I even went as far as calculating my costs and believe it or not, the maps feature was actually pretty much spot on! Thought it would be worth a mention.

VM (Virtual Machine) compact

One of the clients of the IT company i work for was having backup issues. It was down to space, LTO2 drive which was trying to now backup 490ish GB of data. The last successful backup was 438GB. Where had that extra data come from? Client doesnt know..? Anyway, as they run MS Hyper-V i noticed the vhd was bigger than the space used inside. This meant i could compact the file and get that space back! So i deleted some old files from both the C and D vhds ready for compacting. Thought i would do a defrag too while i was at it. Windows showed c:\ as: 44GB Windows showed d:\ as: 239GB The VHD sizes before compact: C: 72GB  D: 316GB After: C: 41GB  D: 223GB Happy days :)

So this will be my first blog from my iPhone4. I will guess that this will just work flawlessly and won't cause any dodgy side affects! Well when this eventually decides to post. I was slightly wrong with the "flawless" comment. It won't publish!!
